Company Profile

Novadaq Technologies develops medical imaging systems and real-time image guided procedures for the operating room.  Imaging in real-time may enable surgeons to make better informed decisions during the course of an operation and potentially improves the effectiveness of therapeutic surgical procedures. Novadaq is a publicly traded company and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX), Canada's largest exchange, under the symbol NDQ.

Novadaq's vast intellectual property focuses on the visualization of blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics and other tissue during a variety of open and minimally invasive surgical procedures.  Surgeons performing Novadaq's imaging procedures in the operating room can acquire vivid real-time images within minutes without the use of x-ray.  Novadaq's images may allow surgeons to evaluate the quality of blood flow and blood perfusion to organs and tissue, determine the location of certain nerves, lymph nodes and tumors and assess for the presence of healthy versus unhealthy tissue.  Novadaq's imaging technologies guide surgeons to potentially achieve a technically perfect operative procedure for each individual patient they treat.

Novadaq traces its roots to the National Research Council (NRC, http://www.nrc.ca/) of Canada's Institute for Biodiagnostics (IBD). The company was founded in April 2000 by licensing core intellectual property from the IBD. Later, Novadaq also exclusively licensed patents from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, and from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. In early 2007, Novadaq became the exclusive United States (US) distributor of PLC Medical's COHEART LASER™ System for Transmyocardial Revascualrization (TMR). In March of 2007, Novadaq acquired an extensive portfolio of patents in the area of natural tissue fluorescence and endoscopic technologies.  These patents compliment Novadaq's already strong portfolio of previously acquired and internally developed intellectual property.

Novadaq applies its intellectual property to provide imaging to improve outcomes of complex and technically demanding surgical procedures that can result in costly and potentially life threatening complications. The company either markets or plans to market products developed specifically for use during cardiac, plastic reconstructive, urological and other complex surgeries. Novadaq currently markets 3 products that have either been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are reimbursable. The SPY® Imaging System and the COHEART LASER System are used during cardiac surgery . The SPY System is also used during plastic and reconstructive surgery.  PINPOINT™, Novadaq's Autofluorescence Endoscopic Imaging System, enables surgeons and interventional specialists to more effectively distinguish between healthy versus unhealthy tissue in the lung.  Novadaq's marketed products are supported by an experienced direct Sales and Clinical Education team in the United States, who continually strive to provide the highest level of service to customers.  Novadaq also has a strong pipeline of proprietary products that may improve the delivery and outcomes of other open and minimally invasive therapeutic procedures such as pediatric cardiac surgery, transplant surgery, and urology.
