The OPTTX System is designed to deliver a “stand-alone” treatment known as Choroidal Vessel Closure (CVC). In addition, it can be used in combination with other treatment regimens such as intra-ocular injections, with the potential to further improve the clinical outcomes for patients and minimize the frequency of those treatments. In November of 2006, Novadaq received CE Mark certification for the OPTTX System, enabling the Company to market in Europe. Novadaq elected Europe as its first point of market entry for OPTTX because European ophthalmologists often perform their own digital imaging and laser treatment interventions, whereas in the US photographers are typically responsible for imaging. In addition, laser treatment interventions are more commonly performed in Europe, where the cost-effectiveness and proven clinical outcomes associated with these procedures are well accepted by the broad community of ophthalmologists. Novadaq commenced its initial launch of OPTTX in late 2006 and early 2007, by placing one OPTTX System in each of England, Italy and Switzerland. It is anticipated that this limited launch will provide invaluable information related to resource requirements related to training, support for clinical adoption and further system optimization. Novadaq has initiated two post-market registry trials. OPTTX is not yet cleared or approved for sale in the United States. |
